DAS Does Doremus

Charlotte Black, a graduate trainee on Omnicom's DAS Accelerate Scheme, worked at Doremus London for three months at the beginning of 2011. During her time at Doremus, she worked on a number of accounts in a largely digital capacity. A multiplicity of newly created online platforms and handles that bear her name are a testament to her rising to this challenge.

In this short article, she shares her thoughts and reflections on the tasks and challenges she encountered whilst at Doremus; as well as what she will take away from her time here with us.

I have just completed nearly three months working at the Doremus London office as part of the DAS Accelerate Scheme. This scheme is a management trainee programme designed to introduce four graduates each year to five different agencies across the DAS network. My official title is Corporate Reputation Management trainee; which means the agencies I experience generally have more of a corporate stance and I learn the various ways in which the reputation of corporate giants is managed through different communication channels.

My experience with Doremus was fulfilling and very enjoyable. To be given the opportunity to work alongside some of the most inspiring and enthusiastic people I have encountered in my career has been a hugely rewarding experience.

Under the guidance of Matthew Don, Director of Digital Strategy and Innovation, I gained thorough insight and keen interest in emerging media and technology and the role it can play in an overall communication strategy. The opportunity to work with some very interesting clients with real responsibility has not only developed my knowledge, but also my confidence.

It was very hard to leave Doremus, as the team was so welcoming and approachable. The collaborative environment makes for a culture which nurtures creativity and individual growth. I am now embarking on the next stage of my Accelerate journey at Fleishman Hillard, but I have Doremus to thank for a newfound interest and passion for digital, and a genuinely rewarding and enjoyable placement. I will miss the entire Doremus London team enormously.

Doremus Bakes Up A Batch To Help Japan

Last Tuesday, Janie Thomas, our Senior Project Manager at the New York office, decided to bake a batch of her famous "amazing j's" organic cookies. Moved by the devastation in Japan and wanting to help, Janie decided to sell her cookies for donations to send to the Red Cross for Japan disaster relief. Doremians, no strangers to amazing j's cookies, bought out her supply within minutes, raising over $130 for the Red Cross, which was matched by Doremus for a total contribution of $260.

This led to another idea to sweeten the pot… let's hold a Doremus bake sale!

People got out their mixers over the weekend and brought in their goodies the following Monday to sell in the lobby of 200 Varick Street. There were over 20 different delectables, from cupcakes of all shapes and sizes to chocolate souffle to banana bread. Most passers by couldn't resist a nibble on their way back from lunch. Over the couple hours, everything sold out and $1680 ($3360 after Doremus' match!) was raised to help Japan.

“People want to do something to help,” Janie said, “but many are stretched financially. It’s tough these days to write a check, but buying a treat is a simple way to give to others and give yourself a pick-me-up at the same time. In the end, everyone wins.”

Janie hopes what Doremus did will inspire other agencies to do something to help the Japanese people, “In whatever way works for them.”
